I HAVE CHICKENS!!

One of my longstanding dreams has finally happened. As of yesterday, I am the proud owner of 15 laying hens. It is so wonderful to have our own eggs, especially considering the cost of eggs in the store these days. The children have already tamed some of them and carry the ol' girls around. We have been buying our eggs from a nearby farm for some time, and yesterday they offered us the hens whose eggs we have been buying! They are getting new chicks and had to move the older layers out of their coop. We had our first egg last night, and I look forward to collecting 6-12 eggs daily from here on out. We are also getting new chicks on Thursday, so when they are old enough to lay, these ol' gals will be going in the freezer. Another blessing!! We love chicken and don't have it much. I promised the children I wouldn't label the packages with their chickens' names. . . I'll be getting some pictures up here soon, just having camera issues at the moment.
