Even as we are mourning Molly's passing, we are enjoying new life of a different sort! Ferdie, Ericka's parakeet, is the proud new mama of 3 baby chicks (so far). They are interesting to watch. The eggs do not hatch at the same time, so all 3 are different ages and at different stages of development. Ferdie is a good mama and Zeus is a great dad who helps feed the little ones and feeds mama when she is in the nest. We all agree though that as fascinating as these babies are, they are U-G-L-Y! Talk about a face only a mother can love!! The oldest one, seen here, is named Hula, and she (or he) already loves to be held. Ericka puts her hand in the nest and Hula grabs on and stops cheeping! It's amazing. We'll post pictures as they develop. It will be especially fun to see what colors they end up being.
